  3. M- Meaning • Show understanding of the task • Answer the question completely • Stay on task • Send clear message

  4. D- Development • Use specific examples for support • Explain meaning of what you are trying to say • Explain ideas thoroughly • Make sure there is enough support information

  5. O-Organization • Use correct number of body paragraphs • Write intro and conclusion correctly • Include a thesis • Include topic sentences for each body paragraph • Use transitions

  6. L- Language • Do not use slang- Dude • Don’t use contract’ions • Don’t use clichés if you count your chickens before they hatch • Use sophisticated vocabulary to ENHANCE your writing

  7. C-Conventions a.k.a. GUM • Spell correctly • Punctuate correctly • Capitalize correctly • Use correct agreement • Proofread

  8. So how does this all break down? • Each letter is assigned between 0-6 points depending upon how well each section is developed in the essay. • That score is then / 30 which = your essay score
