  1. Col. 2:9

  2. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST A. Gnosticism (late 1st, early 2nd century) 1. Believed physical inherently evil & spirit inherently good (Gen. 1:31; 1 Tim. 4:4-5). 2. Viewed Jesus as just a man & Christ as a separate spiritual being (1 John 1:1-4; 2:1-2, 22-26; 4:1-3, 5:5-12; 2 John 7). I. SOME DENY HIS HUMANITY B. Pentecostal Oneness - UPC 1. God tabernacled in flesh, which involved the union of 2 natures & 2 spirits in one Person. 2. The human person could have existed in the absence of the divine (Preceptor 10/96 p. 10).

  3. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST C. Jack Holt – “Two Spirits” 1. “The incarnation of the Logos is His becoming completely man. It involves, therefore, His assumption of the entire undivided nature of man, spiritual and bodily.” “He also had a human.” (Recycled Views Of The Person Of Christ, J. Holt p. 3-4) I. SOME DENY HIS HUMANITY DIVINE + HUMAN SPIRITS WRONG! 2. Illustration: One Body TWO Spirits

  4. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST A. Jews Of The First Century “The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.” (John 10:33) II. SOME DENY HIS DEITY B. Jehovah’s Witnesses CREATED SPIRIT John 1:1 “a god” (New World Translation) WRONG! BODY

  5. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST C. Some “Preachers”!!! 1. Jeff Asher: a. Jesus has not always existed (Taped sermon High School Road C of C 7/95). II. SOME DENY HIS DEITY b. Jesus had to learn who he was (Asher’s debate notes p. 100, Aug. 1999). c. Says it is illogical and unscriptural to be unlimited Deity and man at the same time. (ibid p. 83). IF Asher Is Right, Then Jesus Was JUST A Man!

  6. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST C. Some “Preachers”!!! 2. John Welch (Frost/Welch Debate KY 6/1995) a. “Resolved: The Scriptures teach that when Jesus came to earth His spirit was changed.” II. SOME DENY HIS DEITY b. He strips Jesus of any special qualities that would distinguish Him from other men. c. Speaks of the spirit of Jesus as “created”. IF Welch Is Right, Then Jesus Was JUST A Man!

  7. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST CREATED SPIRIT DIVINE + HUMAN SPIRITS ERROR DIVINE SPIRIT BODY BODY III. COMPARISON & ANSWER TO ERROR DIVINE SPIRIT (ORIGINAL) OUR SPIRIT (CREATED) TRUTH Gen. 1:26; Jms. 3:9; Jn 1:1-2, 14, Mt. 1:24; Heb. 13:8; Heb. 10:5; Etc. BODY BODY

  8. THE DEITY & HUMANITY OF CHRIST “For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godheadbodily” (Col. 2:9) A. There were NOT 2 spirits in Jesus Christ. B. NOR did the Divine Spirit change into a human spirit. CONCLUSION: C. The Eternal Spirit took on flesh, thus having all that we have… and more! 1. He understands by creation! 2. He also understands by experience! Will You Come To Him (John 14:6)?
