Objective: Students will examine the events that took place in Russia during 1917 through text, video and timeline.

No Warm-Up.

Homework: On separate paper, research and write 10 facts about one event/person from 1917 Russia. Choose this event/person from today’s text.

  • The Romanov family rules as an absolute monarchy

    headed by Czar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra.

  • Czar Nicholas II is forced to abdicate and a provisional government is established.

  • The new government plans reforms and the establishment of a democracy and constitution.

  • Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks overthrow the new provisional government, sign a peace treaty with Germany, execute the royal family.

  • Russia is now the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republic) aka the Soviet Union.
