  2. Judges, Lawyers and Paralegals volunteering 30 minutes a week for 4 weeks. • Reading to 1st, 2nd or 3rd graders in schools that are struggling with reading goals. • Using books that also integrate topics regarding Civics and American History. Lawyers 4 Literacy

  3. By looking at local data, determine which schools are best served from L4L. • Contact the Superintendent to meet and discuss L4L and targeted schools. • Meet with school principals to discuss L4L and how it would work best for their students and teachers. • Contact local Bar groups for support. Where Do We start:

  4. Teachers’ schedules vs. Lawyers’ schedules • Early Mornings and Lunch • Flexible Days of the Week • Needs to be Consistent • School Location • Flexible Coordinator Important details to consider:

  5. Books to read • Reading Level • Civics Related • Passports, Bookmarks & Certificates • Books to keep • Miscellaneous like pencils and stickers. Start up Supplies:

  6. Working in 2 elementary schools/1 day a week • Serving 36 children • With 12 regular volunteers and 6 fill-in • Teachers requesting new volunteers daily • Volunteering Attorneys asking to start another group as they finish with their first L4L session facts:

  7. Just getting started & organized • Books on reading level • High School Civics Classes • College or Law School • Eagle Scout Project (Citizenship) • Volunteer Buy In (KISS) • School Buy In (Dependability) Hurdles:
