Explores Head West • In 1803 Jefferson asked Congress to fund an expedition to scout the new territory in the west. • Jefferson asked Meriwether Lewis to conduct the expedition • Lewis asked his friend William Clark to be his co-leader on the trip • Lewis and Clark selected about 50 frontiersman to join their “Corp of Discovery”

  5. Lewis and Clark • Started in St. Charles Mo. • They started on their journey Up the Missouri River.
