  1. Our Solar System By; Tate Holifield

  2. The Solar System • The solar system is made up of the planets that orbit the sun. • Sun contains 98% of all the material in solar system • The larger the object the more gravity it has • The solar system has 8 planets and 1 sun

  3. Inner Planets • Earth-93million miles away from the sun, has canyons , valleys, and plains, has one moon • Mercury-smallest planet, 36 million miles away from the sun, rocky, and has no moon • Venus-one day on Venus is 243 earth days, atmosphere is made of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid, no moons • Mars-142 million miles away from the sun, has volcanoes, impacts, and dust storms

  4. Outer Planets

  5. Earth’s Surface • Earth’s surface is about 70% water and earths surface of land is about 30% • It was named after the Greek Goddess Tellus • Earth has five oceans; Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Southern Ocean. • The largest ocean is the Pacific • The smallest is the Arctic Ocean

  6. Earth’s Surface • Earth has seven continents • North America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Antarctica, Australia, and South America • Antarctica has the largest ice cap on earth • if it were to melt the sea level would rise 20ft.

  7. Mar’s Surface • Mars is none for its reddish color and was named after the Roman God of War • There are no continents or oceans but there is water • Scientists say that the northern part of Mars was hit my a meteor • Mars has a huge mountain on it named Olympus Mons • Olympus Mons is two and a half times bigger than Mt. Everest

  8. Earth V. Mars Mars is 142 million miles from the sun and Earth is 93 million miles away from the sun. Mars has little water while earth’s surface is 70 percent water. Mars has no oceans Earth has one moon while Mars has none

  9. Alike • Mars and Earth have water, mountains, valleys, and canyons • They both have life • Both of the planets have large polar ice caps • they almost have the same amount of land surface area

  10. Curiosity • Curiosity has discovered elements to support life • An ancient streambed • It has found radiation close to the amount on the international space station • Curiosity weighs about 1-ton • MAHLI is a camera that takes pictures as small as 12.5 microns • DAN, a machine, will look and test for ice and water

  11. Things Learned • I have learned many things about curiosity and Mars. • The similarities of Earth and Mars • The many things we have found out about mars and that we were deeper into getting a man on mars than I thought.
