  3. Topics Within Standard 6 • Governance System • Governing Board • Leadership & Management • Faculty Role in Governance • Student Role in Governance

  4. Governance System • The institution’s system of governance facilitates the successful accomplishment of its mission and goals. • System policies, regulations, and procedures are clearly defined. • The views of faculty and students are considered in matters in which they have direct interest.

  5. Governing Board • The governing board is ultimately responsible for the quality and integrity of the institution. • The board establishes broad policies and delegates to the chief executive officer the responsibility to implement and administer the policies.

  6. Leadership & Management • The chief executive officer provides leadership through the definition of institutional goals, establishment of priorities, and the development of plans. • The administration and staff are organized to support the teaching and learning environment in order to achieve the mission and goals.

  7. Faculty Governance • The role of faculty in governance, planning, budgeting, and policy development is made clear and public. • Faculty are supported in their governance role.

  8. Student Governance • The role of students in governance, planning, budgeting, and policy development is made clear. • Students are supported in their governance role.

  9. Intent of the Standard • Are basic governance processes and policies in place? • Are they communicated well and understood by the campus? • Are improvements needed? • Is campus administration undertaken in an orderly and thoughtful manner?

  10. Documentation for Standard 6 • Required documents are very straightforward: • Bylaws, organizational charts, policy manuals, handbooks, strategic plan • Job descriptions for Cabinet, VPs, Deans • Information about Board of Regents members, their role, structure, committees • Lists of active campus committees

  11. Other Documentation • Task Force conducted a qualitative survey this fall to ascertain knowledge and opinions about the effectiveness of: • The overall governance system • The Board of Regents and NSHE • Internal organizational structure • Policies • Faculty Senate • Also will solicit governance info and satisfaction from CSUN and GPSA

  12. Remaining Work • Evaluate and summarize qualitative survey results • Collect CSUN and GPSA opinions about student governance • Assemble required documentation • Write the self-study narrative
