  4. Genesis 4:1-2 1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

These two brothers were the first sons of Adam and Eve. His name means, breath. Abel is mentioned eight times in the fourth chapter of Genesis, but he is not mentioned again until the book of Matthew 23:35. However, Cain is mentioned 16 times in the fourth chapter of Genesis, but he is not mentioned again until the book of Hebrews 11:4.

  20. Genesis 4 I know a lot of folk who dwell in “the land of nod” when they are in church, but frankly, I do not know where the land of Nod really is. I have often wondered just where it is, and again, there is speculation about this. But we are told that Cain went out and dwelt in that area. • J. Vernon McGee
