  1. Creating Outlines

  2. Format Handout You have a handout like the one to the right. This will be the overall format for outlining the sections.

  3. Chapter Name and Number • The Chapter Name and Number is to be written when beginning a new chapter. • It does not have to be written for every section, unless you prefer.

  4. Essential Question • The Essential Question must be written at the beginning of every chapter. • It is posted in the room as well as your textbook.

  5. Section Titles • For every section, you are to put the section number (1.1, 1.2, etc.) and name.

  6. Sub-Headings • The sub headings are written in blue within the section. • These help organize the information in each section. • Be sure to write all blue headings as you approach each smaller section.

  7. Content- Vocabulary • As you get to the information, be sure to write vocabulary words and key concepts in the order that they appear.

  8. Content- Key Concepts • Key Concepts are main ideas of the section. These are crucial to your overall understanding of the chapter. • You will see them frequently on quizzes and tests, and must be familiar with the exact wording- so MEMORIZE THEM! • There is a KEY next to each key concept.

  9. Important Points • Continue the rest of the outline, following the format given and remembering to put the sub-headings. • Be neat! • Use highlighters to make the notes more organized and easier to study. • Begin a new section on a new page (or the back of the previous section). • Questions?
