Characteristics of a podcast • Podcast content is consumed on the user’s personal computers or portable devices • Can be used with RSS feeds to be automatically downloaded or manually downloaded by user. • Podcast files are generally downloaded in their entirety before they are played. (McLoughlin and Lee 2007)

  3. Podcasting defined • “A digital recording of a broadcast, made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or personal audio player.” (2005 New Oxford Dictionary) • Podcast content can include audio, video, and image materials

  4. Podcasting catching on • More than 22 million Americans own MP3 players and more than 6 million have downloaded podcasts to enjoy at their leisure.

  7. Assignment #6 Form Team. You may work in groups of 2 for this project. Select Topic. Your team needs to select a PE, health, or physical activity-related topic. Topics could include historical events in a particular sport, scouting report of HS or college sports teams, highlights of sporting event, rules of a game or sport, benefits of exercise, nutritional tips, etc. Consider creating a podcast that would be an example of what one of your students might create in a PE or Health unit Next, research topic and plan verbal script for two (2) audio podcasts. Aim for 1-3 minutes of audio recording. Record podcasts. Using a digital voice recorder, handheld PDA, or another audio recording device, record your two (2) audio podcasts. Avoid monotone speech and consider “educational” and “entertainment” value of your recording. Edit audio recording. Using audio editing software such as Windows Live Movie Maker, Audacity, Quicktime Pro, or Garageband edit your podcast as needed. You may wish to add music at the intro and closure. Submit your two (2) .mp3 or .mp4 audio files to LiveText.
