  1. FOA 4-2-12 Carbon dioxide naturally combines with air to form a weak acid. This acid gets into the groundwater and dissolves limestone, an event that could cause rock layers to break down. What effect do the gases from cars and coal burning plants have on this process? • The gases pull dust and dirt particles from the air and make the limestone stronger. • The gases alter the acid so that it is harmless against limestone. • The gases remove the acid and help to restore the limestone. • The gases make the acid stronger and do more damage to the limestone.
