  1. The Clean Energy-Environment State and Local Program:Communicating & Communications Tools Julie Rosenberg, Chief State and Local Clean Energy-Environment Partnerships Programs Climate Change 101 Workshop EPA Innovations Symposium January 8, 2007

  2. State and Local Governments Matter • Every day, governments make decisions that impact: • energy security and reliability, • air quality, • greenhouse gas emissions, • economic development, • public health, • quality of life • Rapidly increasing numbers of S&Ls are addressing climate and clean energy • EPA helps with cost-effective strategies that achieve multiple benefits

  3. The Message is Becoming Mainstream Our calling card to the 21st century must be the New Energy Economy. Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, January 11, 2007 New York has always been a leader in forward thinking public policies, and by undertaking the most comprehensive, detailed inventory of greenhouse gas emissions in US history, and establishing a very clear target for reductions, we will lead by example in fighting global warming. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, April 10, 2007 It is incumbent upon states to take a leadership role in developing responsive state-level policies and programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, develop alternative energy sources and use energy efficiently. Idaho Executive Order signed by Governor Butch Otter, May 17, 2007 There's a lot at stake. Now's the time to do it. We've just got to focus on it and stay focused on it. Atlanta City Council member Anne Fauver, May 23, 2007
