  5. How Do I Gain These Skills? Internships: An internship experience provides students the opportunity to apply classroom instruction to work settings. The student intern receives academic credit and in some cases is also paid. Can be from 1 semester to more than one. A student can have more than one internship experience.

  6. Benefits Of An Internship • 1. Opportunity to apply classroom learning to actual work experience. • 2. Opportunity for new “learning” from the work experience. • 3. Develop Self Confidence and Professional Skills. • 4. Begin “Networking” Process

  7. 1. Available at Soph. level. Placements usually take place 1 year after completion of soph. year 2. Meet minimum credit requirements 3. Required GPA 2.5 4. Approval by appropriate academic division Fill out Internship app, return to Career Services. Meet with Career Services Director (Marcia Foss). Begin work on Resume Complete learning contract when placement found. Student must keep a weekly log of their experience. Upon completion, must fill out evaluation. Eligibility Process

Take Part in Student Campus Activities Student Gov’t: Senate, V-CAB, Finance Commission, Inter-Residence Hall Council, Honor Societies & Special Interests: Valley Speech League, Viking Ambassadors, Tech. Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Alpha Chi, Phi Beta Lambda, Athletics & Intramurals: Cultural Activities: Art, Community School of Arts, Drama, Foreign Languages, International Opportunities, Medicine Wheel, Music, Planetarium Others: Homecoming & Sno-Daze , Viking News, Viking Yearbook

  11. Career Services Activities • 1. Attend Career Fairs: UND and Tri-College in the Fall & Spring • 2. Minneapolis Field Trip: Career Services Staff chaperone students on tours of various Businesses in the Twin Cities Area. We have toured Best Buy, Nash Finch, State Farm, Anderson Consulting, Piper Jaffray, Lutheran Brotherhood, American Express, GreenTree Financial, National Car Rental,and many others. • 3. Attend On Campus Company Presentations. We have had representatives from Microsoft Great Plains, Eide Bailly, Northwestern Mutual, McDonalds, Lutheran Brotherhood, and many more.
