    1. Student Council 2011-2012 Meeting One 8/23/2011

    2. Student Council Goals To represent the student bodies To create school events to enhance school spirit To focus on student issues and to come up with solutions To collect data about student concerns and needs To work as a team to get everything done in a timely fashion

    3. Communication is key! All officers need to have everyone’s e-mail (cell phone numbers would be a plus) Everyone should check the Student Council Web Page and the calendar at least weekly for updates (it is a work in progress). Listen to the school’s daily announcements and Fridays with student council on the period 2 announcements. The secretaries must share minutes and documents with everyone (we are creating a list serve and those will be uploaded to the website).

    4. President’s Duties • Presides over Officer’s Meetings • Establishes the agenda with the officers prior to the meetings (agenda needs to be handed to me no later then 24 hours before the meeting). • Presides over the Student Council meetings with class representatives using an orderly procedure (Robert’s Rules of Order). • Votes only in case of a tie • Represents the school and the Student Council at other functions.

    5. Vice President’s Duties • Presides over the Student Council meeting in the absence of the President • Oversees committee work by regularly checking in with committee heads. • Sees that individual duties of the secretary and treasurer are completed • Represents the school and the Student Council at other functions • Meets with the sponsors regularly.

    6. Treasurer’s Duties • Maintains the Student Council financial records • Counts the money before and after each fund-raising event (Money will always be handled by an advisor). • Reports on the income, expenditures and balance at each meeting • Heads the fund-raising committee.

    7. Secretaries' Duties • Takes the roll call and keeps a record of attendance • Takes minutes during the meeting, rewrites the minutes and submits them to the advisor. • Reports on and answers any requests and/or suggestions • Keeps the Student Council board up-to-date, neat and graphically interesting. Works with the advisor on the Student Council website.

    9. Committee Member Duties • Participate in the after-school Student Council club. • Brainstorm new ideas and set a calendar of the year’s activities for their specific committee. • Choose a committee head that will be responsible to report to the vice-president the planned activities. • Organize the activities for the Student Council committee of their choice.

    10. Our “To Do” List: Organize committees for homecoming ASAP. Decide on four activities we want to head-up this year, create committee chairs for this (I have one in mind). Come up with survey questions for the student body. Decide who will complete the segment about “Fridays with Stuco!” on channel one. Everyone needs to have signed contracts. Decide on dates for general body meetings and officer meetings. Make sure to get a binder that is just for student council to keep all of your paperwork together. We need a slogan…lets think! Anything else?
