  4. Embryonic Stem Cells Formed as a normal part of embryonic development Can be isolated from an early embryo and grown in a dish

  5. Somatic Stem Cells (Also called Adult Stem Cells) Exist naturally in the body Important for growth, healing, and replacing cells lost through daily wear and tear

  6. Induced Pluripotent Stem cells Created artificially in a lab by “reprogramming” patient’s own normal adult cells back to embryonic stem cell-like state Can be made from cells that are readily available, such as fat, skin, and fibroblasts (cells that produce connective tissue)
