  3. Crunk Performers of crunk music are sometimes referred to as crunksters. A typical crunk track most frequently uses a drum machine rhythm, heavy bassline, and shouting vocals, often in call and response manner. The term crunk is also used as a blanket term to denote any style of southern hip hop, a side effect of the genre's breakthrough to the mainstream.

  4. Electro Hop the fusion of electro, electroclash, electropop, electronica, or electronic dance music with hip hop The music usually has dancing in mind, however some forms of the music are electronica. Electro hop music typically features harsher synthesizer sounds than other styles of hip hop, often utilizing heavily distorted lead and bass sounds, as well as "bleep"-ing square leads and abrasive digital brass effects. Drum sequencing is typically more minimal than other genres, and frequently has characteristic segments where the kick drum stops or is shortened and a march-style snare pattern prevails for 2 or more bars before returning to a typical kick drum-dominated hip hop beat.

  5. Rap 'Flow' is defined as "the rhythms and rhymes” of a hip-hop song's lyrics and how they interact 'Flow' is also sometimes used to refer to elements of the delivery (pitch, timbre, volume) as well, though often a distinction is made between the flow and the delivery There are different styles of flow and people have different terms for them-if you are doing rap the basic definition is rhyming and rhythmic speech set to music

  6. Folk-Hop fusion of folk sensibility and trip hop rhythms and grooves Tip Hop: includes a bass-heavy drumbeat, often emulating the slowed breakbeat samples typical of hip hop in the 1990s. Vocals in trip hop are often female and feature characteristics of various singing styles including R&B, jazz and rock.

  7. Freestyle Rap commonly refers to rap lyrics which are improvised a cappella or with instrumental beats performed with no previously composed lyrics, or "off the top of the head"

  8. G-Funk or gangsta-funk, is a sub-genre of hip hop music that emerged from West Coast gangsta rap in the early 1990s G-funk (which uses funk with an artificially altered tempo) incorporates multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, a deep bass, background female vocals, the extensive sampling of P-Funk tunes, and a high-pitched portamento sine wave synthesizer lead. (P-Funk is a shorthand term for the repertoire and performers associated with George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic collective and the distinctive style of funk music they performed)

  9. Nerdcore characterized by themes and subject matter considered to be of general interest to nerds, though it can appeal to others as well Though nerdcore rappers rhyme about anything from politics to science fiction, there are some perennial favorites in nerdcore subject matter, including Star Wars, role-playing games, science, fantasy and computers. more defined by lyrics, nerdcore has no unifying musical sound, and the sound of nerdcore varies wildly from artist to artist

  10. Snap Music a dance-centric subgenre of hip hop music,[1] that originated in the South in the late-1990s, in Bankhead, West Atlanta, the United States Tracks commonly consist of only a 808 (bass or kick drum), hi-hat, bass, snapping, a main groove, and a vocal track. Invented for use at nightclubs, it is unusually languid for normal dance music, with a slow tempo.

  11. Rap Opera A rap opera or hip hopera is a series of hip hop songs in the form of an opera, inspired by the concept of rock opera. Like its predecessor, rap opera tells a story through consecutive pieces of music involving the same character or characters. Rap opera may be a purely auditory experience, or it may be associated with a musical, comic book, or other art form. It is a relatively young, spontaneous form, performed more by amateurs and non-profit groups than by professional emcees.

  12. Rap Rock Rap rock is a cross-genre fusing vocal and instrumental elements of hip hop with various forms of rock. rock songs in which the vocals were rapped rather than sung the rhythms of rap rock are rooted in that of hip hop, with more funk influences than normal hard rock (Crossover with Rock)

  13. Grime Grime is typified by complex 2-step, 4X4, breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute, or sometimes structured around a halftime rhythm, and constructed from different synth, string and electronic sounds. Stylistically, grime draws on many genres including UK Garage, dancehall, hip hop. The lyrics and music combine futuristic electronic elements and dark, guttural bass lines.

  14. Instrumental Hip Hop Instrumental hip hop is hip hop music without vocals. Hip hop as a general rule consists of two elements: an instrumental track (the "beat") and a vocal track (the "rap"). The artist who crafts the beat is the producer, and the one who crafts the rap is the MC. In this format, the rap is almost always the primary focus of the song, providing most of the complexity and variation over a more or less repetitive beat. Instrumental hip hop is therefore hip hop music without emcee accompaniment. This format affords the producer the flexibility to create more complex, richly detailed and varied instrumentals, with less emphasis on vocals. Songs of this genre may wander off in different musical directions without the vocal constraints of the MC. Instrumental hip hop has yet to be fully recognized as a genre unto itself, and is often clumped in with trip hop, breakbeat hardcore, drum n bass, oldschool jungle, downtempo, electronica, or industrial music. This may in part be because it is so hard to classify, as when a hip hop beat is separated from rapping and varied enough to hold a listener's attention by itself, it can go off in many musical directions.

  15. Rap Metal Rap metal is a subgenre of rap rock which fuses vocal and instrumental elements of hip hop music with heavy metal.
