  4. Impressive growth of Greek capital market in recent years, due to financial liberalisation, structural liberalization, improvement of macroeconomic variables, growth prospects for the economy and listed companies. Athens Stock Exchange S.A.

  5. ASE moves towards further restructuring, modernization and business expansion, focusing on three basic directions: • Restructuring of legal-regulatory framework for more credibility – transparency. Listing requirements, company disclosure, use of funds raised. Athens Stock Exchange S.A.

  6. Upgrading and modernisation of infrastructure. ASE’s wide area network, electronic trading, share demeterialisation. • Introduction of new products. New indices, derivative products, new market (euro N.M), secondary listings, GDRs, combined indices, regional cooperation, market enlargement. Athens Stock Exchange S.A.

  7. Qualitative and quantitative changes lead to the upgrading of Greek capital market, which is to be declared as a developed – mature market by MSCI, as from May 2001. Athens Stock Exchange S.A.

Efforts for a more efficient market continue. • New organisational structure, by strengthening business development divisions, market surveillance, merging of ASE and ADEX, a clearing house for both stocks and derivatives and listing of holding company, Hellenic Exchanges S.A. into the ASE. Modernization and flexible operation of institutional – operational framework for ASE, while transferring of administrative authority to HCMC and strengthening its supervision role. • Introduction of new reforms such as margin accounts and securities borrowing and lending.
