  1. Guide to Teaching Kids Good Dental Hygiene

  2. Dental Health • When kids are trained to care for their dental health early on, they are likely to carry this habit with them for the rest of their life. Kids also benefit from it tremendously because bad dental hygiene can affect one's health. • At an early age, they still do not have the ability to look after their teeth and gums on their own to some degree. They need an adults help and support on this part.

  3. Here's a Guide to Teaching Kids Good Dental Hygiene:

  4. Make Brushing Enjoyable • Let the kids choose their own toothbrush. The more they love their toothbrush, the more they’d feel motivated to use it. • They will have fun brushing their teeth as they see it as child's play. Brush along with them so you can also show them the proper way on how to do it.

  5. Teach them to Floss • Brushing alone is not enough. Hard to reach areas of our teeth may still have food debris left even after we brush it. • Flossing helps address this problem. Show your kids how to floss properly and make it a habit to floss with them daily.

  6. Be a Role Model • Kids are most likely to imitate what they see from adults. Apart from talking to them about the importance of good dental hygiene, show them how you value it as well. • Brush twice a day, especially before going to bed at night to prevent any cavities and gum disease.

  7. Make sure they Eat a Balanced Diet • Kids especially love junk food and snacks rich in sugar. However, it’s important to try to limit their intake of sugary and starchy food. These food types are among the common culprit of tooth decay and one of the main causes of cavities. • After they’ve had their sweets, make it a point to have them rinse food from their mouth by drinking water and to brush their teeth.

  8. Remind them to Clean their Tongue • When the tongue is not cleaned, it can cause bad breath and tooth decay this is because bacteria can also thrive on our tongue. • Teach them to always clean their tongue as they brush their teeth. They can use a tongue cleaner or simply their toothbrush to clean it.

  9. Go to the Dentist Regularly • Dentists are your number one partner in ensuring that your kids are in good dental health. Work with your dentist to make the experience fun and relaxing for kids. • It’s important that they feel at ease around the dental staff so they’d be more willing to go with you during their dental visits.

  10. Check These Out! • Teaching kids good dental hygiene will always be a worthy investment that they’d thank you for as they grow older. Think of it as another opportunity to spend quality time with your kids before they turn into adults and stand on their own. • Brought to you by Image Dental Care, they provides quality dental care services in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.
