  4. Causes of Road Crashes • Of the 200,000+ contributory causes to Reported RTC’s • Vehicle Fault 1.06% • Environment 8.13% • Human Error 90.81% • (source: DoT Reported Road Casualties, GB 2012). • NB – can be multiple causes for an “accident”

Driving Standards • The Reasons for Focusing on Driver Training • 75% of drivers believe their driving is above average • Most drivers involved in a collision do not believe they may have contributed to it • Many of these motorists do not learn from these mistakes • Nobody has ever confessed to being a BAD driver

Preparing for the IAM Advanced Test • Network of over 200 IAM groups across the UK • A group “Observer” will help assist you in your • “Skill for Life” programme • The Observer will take you on a series of drives • giving advice on the techniques of Advanced Driving • Number of observed drives/rides is not fixed

  10. The Advanced Test • A daytime test using your own vehicle, lasting approx 90 minutes • The test route covers all types of roads • It includes a full and constructive de-brief • All IAM Examiners hold a Police Advanced Driving Certificate

Cycling – a new venture for the IAM • Provide cycle training through existing, • qualified instructors across the UK • Referral to the “Bikeability” Training Scheme • Published 3rd in series of IAM books: • “How to be a better Cyclist” • Created a new level of cycling membership; • - some access to benefits and services
