  2. Simon Bolivar • Simón Bolívar was born in Caracas on July 24th of 1783. • His father died when he was 3 years old. • His mother died 6 months after his father’s death.

  3. Simon Bolivar is one of the most famous figures in Spanish History.

  4. As a child through adulthood, he was extremely wealthy. He got most of his money from plantations from his other ancestors.

  5. At age 16, he was sent to school to finish his education.

  6. At age 19, he married Maria Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alaysa.

  7. Bolívar returned to Venezuela in 1807, It was during this period that Bolívar wrote his Manifiestode Cartagena.

  8. Simón Bolívar was in office from December 17 1819 – May 4, 1830.

  11. In 1817, with Haitian soldiers and vital material support, Bolívar landed in Venezuela and captured Angostura. He decided to do this to abolish slavery and fight for independence for New Granada.

As the Spanish completed their reconquest of the country, Bolivar escaped to Cartagena in New Granada. • He began championing a political system in which the nobility played a strong role, led by a president for life. • The government of New Granada authorized a revolutionary force to liberate the Spanish-held bastions in their territory and in Venezuela.

  14. On December 5, at dawn, Bolivar's 3,000 attacked 5,000 Spanish forces under General Monteverde, who were on in the hills near Araure.
