Demonstrated Fuel Savings • Retrofitting a Mack MR688S (from the solid waste industry) with Evans coolant, with raising the fan-on temperature to 230o F, and increasing the fan off temp, showed an overall improvement of over 7%! • SAE Type II test at PAVE Research Institute, using Evans Waterless HDTC with 215oF thermostats, proved a fuel economy improvement in excess of 3%!

It is expected to be approved by the ASTM as the definitive test method. • The test procedure was performed in April 2009 by a third-party laboratory using Evans HDTC. • The results were so good that no water-based formulations, even ELC formulations, regardless of additives, come close.

  13. Why is “Waterless” so Important? What is Good about Water in a Coolant? Water has been the choice for cooling engines for over 100 years for very good reasons: 1. Water is cheap.2. Water is available.3. Water has superior thermal conductivity - in its liquid state.

What is Bad about Water in a Coolant? • The low boiling point of water (212o F to 220o F) becomes the failuretemperature of traditional cooling systems. • Water is corrosive and promotes electrolysis between dissimilar metals within the cooling system. • Localized boiling causes vapor pockets that interrupt heat transfer; water retains just 4% of it’s thermal conductivity when it changes to vapor. The energy that it takes to maintain coolant temperatures below the boiling point of water is a huge waste of fuel.

Evans HDTC Separates the Boiling Point of the Coolant from its Operating Temperature. • An engine operating temperature of 230o F is more than 100o F less than the boiling point of Evans HDTC. • Evans Waterless HDTC decreases formation of vapor. • In the case of water based coolants, the glycol component of the vapor condenses readily, leaving water vapor. • The temperature at which water vapor condenses is the boiling point of water, not the boiling point of water based coolants. • Heat transfer is not interrupted by insulating layers of water vapor. With Evans HDTC the boiling point of water is no longer a limitation.

  17. Coolant Failure Temperatures Typical coolant operating temperatures are near the failure temperatures of water-based coolants (bottom curve) but are much colder than the failure temperatures of HDTC (top curve).
