  4. State of patients before enter intervention study. Seizure types：All GTCS Seizures frequency: 19+/-23/year, 2 to 180 times Course of diseases: Average: 13.1+/-8.8 years; Range: 5 months to 35 years

  5. Expenses before enter intervention study Average: 1,391 +/- 2,410.3 yuan/patient Range: 0 to 17,000 yuan Under 100 yuan: 13 101—1,000 yuan : 52 1,001—5,000 yuan: 30 5,001—10,000 yuan: 5 *One patient expensed 17,000 yuan because of epilepticus status hospitalization.

  6. History of Treatment • Most patients used to PHT, CBZ, VPA, and PB irregular • 61 cases accepted other treatment Traditional Chinese medicine: 46 cases Acupuncture: 26 Folk prescriptions: 35 Burying thread and so on: 45 Estimate cost: 1,355+/-2,195 yuan (from 20 to 10,000)

  7. Labor ability of patients before enter intervention 90 adults divided 4 groups. Group A(lost labor ability): 15 cases Group B(rested at home neither work nor attending labor): 23 cases Group C(part time work or labor): 40 cases Group D(keep normal work or labor) 12 cases

  8. 10 cases under 18 years Go to school normal: 2 cases Go to school sometimes: 3 cases At home: 5 cases

  9. Outcome of Intervention 100 Patients received treatment with phenobarbital according to the technical norms one year. Those patients took phenobarbital average dosage 123 +/- 42 mg per day， daily dosage range 45 mg to 210 mg. All patient have a good compliance and no severe side effects in one-year follow-up.

  10. The effects of Intermention Average seizures frequency 12+/-28 times Range: 0 to 169 / year.

  14. Cost in General Hospital The patient minimal cost per year is 690.00 yuan and max cost is 5,928.00 yuan in general hospital. It not included the traveling expenses and other charges.

  15. In Demonstration Project The cost of treatment of one patient is about 150yuan per year. Including: Drugs: 30 yuan Physician allowance : 120 yuan
