  11. Eligibility for Extra Curricular • 2.0 GPA or higher and receive no more than 1 F/NC grade in the previous grading period • Students must be enrolled in at least 6 classes each grading period • Good behavior • Good attendance

  12. Attendance & Tardies • 15 absence limit per semester in each class • 3 tardies = detention • 5 tardies = Saturday School • 7 tardies = suspension

  13. Dress Code • Wear school appropriate clothing. If you think something may not be school appropriate, chances are it’s not. • Any garment advertising or promoting gang symbols, alcohol, tobacco, or drug messages is not permitted. • All undergarments must be covered at all times. • Clothing must cover a student’s body between the armpit to mid-thigh (tip of finger of extended arm). • Shoes must be worn at all times. • Visit the high school web site or read the student handbook for all the specifics relating to the FBHS dress code.

  14. Discipline • Use common sense. • Respect all FBHS citizens. This includes teachers, staff, and students. • Be prepared for class every day. • All school suspensions include an activity suspension. • Students sent to the front office twice in one day are suspended. • Discipline is progressive.

Health • This course is based on the California Department of Education Health Standards. • It is designed to build upon the foundation of health knowledge that students possess and foster health literacy. • The goal of this course is that students will obtain, interpret, and understand basic health information and services. • Health Incorporates discussion, videos, book-work, guest speakers and group work in a way that is comfortable, motivating and fun. • My goal is to encourage your student to take pride in who they are, take care of their body-physically and mentally and most of all love and nurture who they are as individuals!

Visual Art - Photo • Digital photography, digital editing and photographic techniques. • Materials Fee: $30.00 fee for this course to cover consumable materials used in class. • Materials Provided: The school will provide access to digital cameras and computers equipped with Photoshop • II & III is available upon successful completion. • A-G requirements: F

Visual Art – Art I • Drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, papermaking, multicultural art, crafts, art history & more. • Materials Fee: $20.00 fee for this course to cover consumable materials used in class. • Advanced art is available upon successful completion. • A-G requirements: F

Performing Art - Chorus • The High School Choir offers singers a place to explore their voice, learn to read and write music, and several different performance opportunities. • This class requires the commitment of its member to participate in a minimum of three mandatory performances and their rehearsals… some of which may take place outside the school day. • Other expectations include traveling to festival, participating in fundraising and contributing time or talent to community events. • Students are responsible for their own music and choral outfits. • A-G requirements: F

Performing Art - Band • Prerequisite: The ability to perform one’s instrument adequately by demonstrating basic scales with good tone, quality and accuracy. • Students in this ensemble will participate in various activities which will include: concerts, school athletic events, parades, music festivals and community events. • A-G requirements: F

  28. Foreign Language • Spanish • Levels I, II and III • Native Spanish • Levels I and II

Why Learn Spanish? • It is tied with English as being the second most spoken language on the planet (and the second most common language in the U.S.) • Twenty-one countries in the world are Spanish speaking • Courses Meet Foreign Language Requirements for College Entrance • Job opportunities increase for any student who learns Spanish • It helps with learning other foreign languages as well as improves our English • It opens our eyes to the differences and similarities of cultures • We have an advantage when we travel or when someone needs help translating • Spanish requires consistent practice and study habits, but it is fun!

Automotive • Three Levels (Beg, Interm and Adv) • Curriculum: • How to work with tools and equipment • Training in safety, fire safety and how to properly use an extinguisher • Identification of vehicle parts • How to check the important fluids in your car • How to change a tire • How to change oil • The working parts of engines, brakes, cooling systems, lubrication system, drivetrain, tires and steering • Students take apart and re-assemble a small engine • How to work as a team

  31. Industrial Arts • In Beginning Woodworking we will first cover the safety tests for the equipment and Shop. We will build the end table project first semester and the nightstand project second semester. The woodshop fee is $25.00 per semester. Throughout the course of the year we will use all of the machines in the making of the two projects.

  32. Industrial Arts • Drafting is Back! • Students will begin with paper and pencil drawing, move to Google Sketch and end with Auto CAD.

Culinary Arts • Offerings • Culinary Arts I/II • Advanced Culinary Arts • International Foods • Nutrition and Healthy Cooking • Classes are held in our own (and now brand new) commercial kitchen. Here students will learn how to work in a restaurant setting. • The introductory class (Culinary Arts I) which is open to 9th graders includes: • Sanitation • Safety • Waitstaff techniques • Management skills • And of course—Cooking, which includes: • Cooking terms • Recipe Reading • Measuring • Kitchen equipment identification and use • Culinary Arts classes involve lots of group work, with an emphasis on TEAMWORK!

AVID • AVID Students are… • B, C, and even D students • Planning to go to college • Willing to work hard • 1st in their family to attend college • from low-income or minority families • enrolled in their school's toughest classes, such as honors and AP, but also in the AVID elective • Learning organizational and study skills • Working on critical thinking and asking probing questions • Getting academic help from peers and tutors • Participating in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable • Applications and recruitment will happen at the Middle School
