  2. Step 1: Choose an innovator as inspiration for your artwork. Choose from one of the following influential people: • Lewis Hine (Photographer) • Sacagawea (Explorer) • Neil Armstrong (astronaut) • Stephen Hawking (theoretical physicist) • Jim Henson (puppeteer) • Bob Fosse (choreographer) • Claude Monet (artist) • Aaron Copland (musician)

  3. Step 2: Learn more about them and their influence.

  4. Lewis Hine (photographer) • . Lewis Wickes Hine was born in 1874. He used photography to document many historical events. • He also used documentary photography as a tool for social change and reform.

  5. Sacagawea (explorer): • She was hired by Lewis and Clark to help guide their team of explorers of the unsettled American West. • She was pregnant when they hired her. She delivered and then carried her baby for much of the expedition.

  6. Neil Armstrong • Neil Armstrong was an astronaut and the first person to walk on the moon.

  7. Stephen Hawking • Stephen Hawking is an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. Hawking was the first to set forth a cosmology explained by a union of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.

  8. Jim Henson • Jim Henson was an American puppeteer,inventor, screenwriter, film director and producer. • Best known as Creator of the muppets.

  9. Bob Fosse • Bob Fosse was an American actor, dancer, choreographer, director, screen writer, film editor and film director. • He won an unprecedented eight Tony Awards for choreography, as well as one for direction. He was nominated for an Academy Award four times.

  10. Claude Monet • Claude Monet was a French artist who is considered the father of Impressionism.

  11. Aaron Copland • Aaron Copland was an American composer, composition teacher, writer, and later in his career a conductor of his own and other American music. Instrumental in forging a distinctly American style of composition.

  12. Step 3: Come up with your idea for a work of art inspired by one of these innovators. (Use your sketch book!) HINTS: • Don’t be too obvious. The viewer should have to think a little. • Avoid being cliché like the plague! • Think about what medium would best represent them. • Think about “abstracting”images. • Give it an interesting title.

The Criteria for this assignment : • Must have one of the innovators as the theme for the art work. • Must also express how you feel about the innovator. • Idea must be original and creative NOT cliché. • Project should take at least 3 class periods to complete. • Must show effort and quality workmanship.
