  2. Why evaluate? • Because EU tells us to …. .… the boring bit – how did the project run? • And because we want to …. …. the interesting bit – does it work? • (Help inform project delivery)

  3. Three BIG questions Can SEPE be transferred to other countries using various art forms? What changes are necessary to make it work (better)? Does it reduce re-offending?

  4. Six outcomes to measure PEETA programmes adapted to each setting EQF-mapped qualification in each country European network of artists and prison staff established Influence on policy makers and other audiences Project management and implementation Quality of partnership working

  5. Who is doing the evaluation? Internal monitoring and research Exeter University + Combined with external evaluation to be appointed = One combined report

  6. And how ? Have research plan to help appoint external evaluator Will then agree detailed plan and circulate for comment But we already have some ideas ….

  7. Research audiences Project team at Superact Partner management teams Artists Learners Prison staff National policy stakeholders European policy stakeholders

  8. Research methods Will vary by audience Record of activity (also need for project reporting) Observation at meetings and in prisons Interviews – face to face, e-interviews, telephone Tracking of ex-offender outcomes (if able) Learner progress records Review of project materials Context setting work on penal system

  9. Spreading the word …. Need to maximise value of research and evaluation Key element is valorisation (being led by Netherlands) And dissemination via academic and other conferences Aim to reach as wide and deep an audience as possible ….

  10. …. to who? Policy makers – regional, national and European Commissioners of prison learning and activities – shared opportunities Prison governors, management Practitioners Academics Funders (Ecorys and Medicor)
