  1. Introduction A point to ponder… Fourth grade teacher Dora Brady is sitting at her desk after school, looking at the scores that her class made on the long division quiz she gave today. She is reviewing the students’ performance in her mind and recalling how she taught the students. She is working on new ways to teach the kids next week using power point. She is drawing upon her knowledge on something called Instructional Design in her thinking.

  2. Definition of Instruction What is Instruction?

  3. Definition of Instruction “The arrangement of collection of data to produce effectivelearning..” Source: Instructional Media and Technologies For Learning. 7 Edition. 2002. Merill Prentice Hall. New Jersey

  4. Definition of Instructional Design What is Instructional Design?

  5. Definition of Instructional Design • “…a systematicprocess to design, develop, implement and evaluate instruction..” – Dick and Reiser (1989)

  6. Definition of Instructional Design • “… the science of creating detailed specifications for the development, evaluation, and maintenance of situations which facilitate the learning of both large and small units of subject matter ..” – Richey (1989)

  7. Definition of Instructional Design “…Instructional Design refers to the systematic and reflective process of translating principles of learning and instruction into plans for instructional materials, activities, information resources, and evaluation..” – Smith and Ragan

  8. The Instructional Design Process • Another way to define instructional design is to describe the process involved in the systematic planning of instruction. • Instructional designer’s job is to answer three major questions (Mager, 1984):

  9. Six Basic Principle

  10. ASSURE Model • The ASSURE model was developed by Heinich, Molenda, Russell, Smaldino (1999) • An instructional model for planning a lesson and the technology that will enhance it.

  11. ASSURE Model The ASSURE model contains six steps and the letters in ASSURE form an acronym.

  12. ASSURE Model Analyze Learners Who are your students?

  13. ASSURE Model Analyze Learners

  14. ASSURE Model State Objective • The ABCDs can be used to create a well-stated objectives:

  15. ASSURE Model State Objective : Activity • Identify the ABCDs in the objective statement below: • The Drawing class B will be able to identify and draw two perspective drawing using pencil and ruler with 100% accuracy • kindergarten class will identify the colors, red, green, and blue using blocks 9 out of 10 tries. • Create your own objective statement

  16. ASSURE Model State Objective • Classification of objectives:

  17. ASSURE Model Select Media & Materials • Choose a method to deliver your instruction • Have your student to work in a small group • Use tutorial in your lesson • Select media : best to support the method you have chosen • Media may includes: • technology solution • Internet resources • Print resources

  18. ASSURE Model Utilize Media & Materials

  19. ASSURE Model Require Learner Participation • Opportunities for learners to practice • Get them to participate actively • Get them involve in the learning process • Strategy?

  20. ASSURE Model Evaluation & Revise

  21. The Role of Audio and Visual Media in Instruction • Audio-visual aid is the best tool for making teaching effective and the best dissemination of knowledge. • Audio –visual material can be included tape recorder, radio, movie, projector method etc. • Let’s discuss… Teacher Students Media: Audio-visual

  22. Advantages of Media : Teacher’s Perspective • Structure • Systematic • Easy • Confident • Quality

  23. Advantages of Media : Student’s Perspective • Motivation • Variation • Systematic • Easy • Thinking • Conducive

  24. Strategy
