  1. Environmental awareness and care Caring for Animals and their Environments

  2. Habitats Where do animals live? All animals have a place where they particularly like to live. This is called their habitat. Think of it as their home. Photo credit Dariusz Dembinski

  3. Habitats Some animals, like a crab for example, might like living in areas with lots of rocks. Other animals, like a cow for example, might like living in areas with lots of grass. Photo credit D Mears

  4. Habitats Animals which live in the water also have habitats. Some like really salty water and some like water without much salt. Some animals need lots of things to hide under, while some like the space of the open ocean.

  5. Suited to their habitat A lot of animals are specially suited to their habitat. For example, this sea dragon is camouflaged to look like the plants which it lives in. Why do you think it is camouflaged? Photo credit Gustavo Bueso Padgett

  6. Suited to their habitat The sea dragon is camouflaged to help keep it safe from animals which want to eat it. Photo credit Gustavo Bueso Padgett

  7. Suited to their habitat The Moray Eel has a thin body which lets it swim through small holes in the rocks to find its food. Photo credit Rick Hawkins

  8. Damage to habitats If an animal’s habitat is damaged, it can make it difficult for the animals to survive. Imagine if something destroyed your home... Sometimes the destruction of a habitat can lead to animals becoming extinct. It is really important that humans help to take good care of the environment to protect the animals that live there.

  9. How can you help? Rubbish can be really damaging to the environment and very dangerous to animals! Make sure to throw all of your rubbish in a bin and recycle anything possible.

  10. How can you help? Global warming is also causing damage to the world’s oceans. You can help to make a difference by using as little energy as possible. Always remember to turn off lights or electric appliances you are not using.
