WHAT IS EBAY? • eBay is an auction where over 500,000 items are listed each day. • eBay has over 60 different sub sites, which means if you are looking for a specific item such as a car you would go to eBay motors. • People place bids, when the auction is over the highest bid wins. • A way to look at different items all over the world while sitting on your bed.

  4. HOW CAN EBAY BE USED? • C2C (CUSTOMER TO CUSTOMER) • B2C (BUSINESS TO CUSTOMER) • B2B (BUSINESS TO BUSINESS)

  5. PAYMENTS WITH EBAY • March 2000, eBay bought out Wells Fargo’s stake on Billpoint for $43.5 million. • It had many problems such as : • Not accepting payment • Not sending payments • Creating accounts • And customer service Billpoint eventually failed and Paypal took over

  6. WHY BILLPOINT FAILED • 1. THEY FAILED DUE TO POOR BUSINESS PLAN. • 2. THEY FAILED DUE TO AGGRESSIVE COMPETITION FROM PAYPAL, Billpoint was loosing 10 to 15 million dollars each year. • 3. HOSTILITY FROM EBAY SELLERS AND EBAY CUSTOMERS. • 4. SELLERS WHO HAVE BANK ACCOUNTS CAN ONLY ACCEPT PAYMENTS.

  7. PAYPAL • EBAY ACQUIRED PAYPAL FOR $1.5 BILLION. • EASY SYSTEM TO USE, SENDING AND RECEIVING PAYMENTS. • SENDING ELECTRONIC CHECKS THROUGH BANK ACCOUNT.

  8. PROBLEMS WITH PAYMENT INTERNATIONALLY • CURRENCY MIX UP’S. • TAKES LONGER TO RECEIVE PAYMENT IF PAYING BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER. • TAKES TOO LONG TO RESPOND BY EMAIL. • TAKES TOO LONG TO CONTACT ONE ANOTHER.

  9. CONFLICTS IN SHIPPING INTERNATIONALLY • COST OF SHIPPING IS VERY EXPENSIVE. • OVERSEA CUSTOM CHARGE. • MUST SUPPLY COUNTRY WITH INFORMATION OF WHAT IS BEING SENT IN DETAIL. • RETURNS AND REFUNDS.
