  1. CS Statewide Questions Do the velocity discontinuities at the boundaries between models need to be smoothed? If so, how? Include/exclude Lin-Thurber model? The following slides illustrate both of these issues.

  2. Illustration of Discontinuities as Models are Combined The following four plots illustrate how things look as models are tiled one on top of another in UCVM. There is a significant near-surface velocity discontinuity between CVM-SI and CVM-NCI

  3. Problems with LT Model Unexpected velocities (to me) in the NE mountainous region of California near Tahoe. UCVM uses bilinear interpolation approximation as a projection for LT model since the authors have not published the projection specification they used in their model grid. We will need to get their projection. The caption under the plot on the next slide gives more detail on both of these issues.

  4. Plot Illustrating LT Velocity Issue

  5. How Things Look w/o LT Model The following two plots show a combined statewide consisting of only the CVM-SI, CVM-NCI, and 1D models at depths 0m and 2000m The velocity discontinuities seem to improve with depth.
