  5. Orders/Notices

  6. Orders are detailed permanent directives that offer guidance on a particular subject. • Notices are temporary directives that offer guidance on a particular subject.

  7. Policy

  8. A policy statement gives guidance or acceptable practices on how to find compliance with a specific CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) section or paragraph. • These documents are explanatory and not mandated.

  9. Airworthiness Directives (AD)

  10. Airworthiness Directives • Airworthiness Directives (AD’s) are issued to correct unsafe conditions in a product. • A product is an aircraft, aircraft engine, propeller, or appliance.

  13. NASA: Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) The Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) receives, processes and analyzes voluntarily submitted incident reports from: • Pilots, • Air traffic controllers, • Dispatchers, • Flight attendants, • Maintenance technicians, • and others

Purpose • Identify deficiencies and discrepancies in the National Aviation System Objective: Improve the current aviation system • Provide data for planning and improvements to the future National Aviation System Objective: Enhance the basis for human factors research and recommendations for future aviation procedures, operations, facilities, and equipment
