  2. Meet the Teacher! • I graduated from UT in 2018 - hook ‘em! • This is my second year teaching at Gorzycki (also my second year teaching a SCORES excel class) • I also coach volleyball and track at GMS • I have two dogs that my husband and I love to take on hikes around Austin

  3. What is SCORES/Excel? • Direct social skills instruction • Authentic opportunities for social interaction with real-time feedback • SEL lessons • Dedicated time during the day for: • Filling out student planners/agendas • Working on homework • Attending tutoring, if necessary

  4. Weekly Schedule (Framework): • Monday: SEL lessons • Tuesday: PALS/authentic social interaction opportunities • Wednesday: direct social skills instruction • Thursday: direct social skills instruction • Friday: earned reward time/authentic social interaction opportunities

  5. Examples of Topics Covered in Direct Instruction • Perspective-taking • Turn-taking/sharing • How to initiate and maintain friendships • Emotional regulation/stress-management • Learning to be flexible • Working cooperatively and collaboratively with a group • Teenager “social norms” and hygiene Instruction taken from: Michelle Garcia Winner books, Jed E. Baker’s Social Skills Training book, social skills workbooks specializing in advanced skills, and relevant online material (such as video-modeling)
