  2. Solar Eclipse Solar eclipses are an accident of nature. Solar eclipses occur at the new moon, when the moon is between the sun and the Earth. It is dangerous to look at a solar eclipse directly even with sunglasses. The last solar eclipse was August 11,1999.

  3. Solar Eclipse

  4. Lunar Eclipse A lunar eclipse can last up to an hour and a half. It is not dangerous to look at a lunar eclipse directly, because the moon does not make it’s own light. The last lunar eclipse was February 20, 2008.

  6. Ellipse An ellipse is an elongated circle that was named in the third century, B.C. by a Greek mathematician named Appollonius of Perga. An oval shape, which may be elongated or nearly circular. An elongated circle. Our group definition is an oval shape nearly circular.

  8. Neap Tides

  9. Spring Tides

  10. Spring Tides When the moon is full or new, the gravitational pull of the moon and sun are combined. Spring tides are especially strong tides. At these times the high tides are very high and the tides are very low.

  11. Neap Tides A neap tide is the tide with the least difference between consecutive high and low tides. Our groups definition is the least difference between low and high tides. Neap tides occur during the moons quarter phases.

  12. Solar Eclipse A solar eclipse is the blocking of sunlight to earth that occurs when the moon is directly between the sun and earth. Our group definition is the blocking of sunlight to the earth.

  13. Lunar Eclipse The blocking of the sunlight to the moon that occurs when earth is directly between the sun and the moon. Our group definition is occurs when earth is in front of the moon.

  14. SpringTides The tide with the greatest difference between consecutive low and high tides. Our group definition is the tide with the greatest difference between low and high tides.
