  2. Michael Eaton The Sermon on the Mount is perhaps the greatest, the most searching, the most challenging part of the Bible. When I came to preach on it again recently I approached it with great awe and wonder. The more I read it, the more I preach on it, the more awe-inspiring it becomes…. Of all the books I have written, none has been so valuable to my own life as this one.

  3. Background…

  4. Matthew 5:1 - 2, 7:24 - 29

  5. Bugs in the teeth…

  6. Cairns in the mist

  7. The Sermon on the Mount is not mainly evangelistic…

  8. The Sermon on the Mount is not Jesus’ exposition on OT Law…

  9. Matthew 7:24 - 27 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

  10. The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus describing the kind of life His disciples live

  11. Matthew 28:18 - 20 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  12. To “really live”…
