  1. Cores vs Clock Speed • AMD Phenom II • Intel Core i7 1.8 Ghz 4 Cores 32 bits 3.0 Ghz 2 Cores 64 bits.

  2. Learning Objectives • All of you should be able to identify 6 different ports in a MoBo • Most of you should be able to describe what the RAM memory does. • Some of you should be able to describe the specs of a RAM memory.

  3. Group Activity: What is a MoBo? • In groups you will be given a MoBo. You will need to identify the main goal the part and at least 3 secondary goals. • 3 minutes Failure to complete the task in the given time will generate an automatic extra homework 1. • T1: Mónica, Elena, Diego, Juan Pablo • T2: Sebastián, Mayte, Andrea, Adair • T3: Eugenio, Eric, Mariana, Fernanda • T4: Alejandro, Adriana, Mauricio, Valentina

  4. MotherBoard (MoBo) • The central printedcircuitboard • Everythingisconnectedtoit. • Itcontainsthebusesthatconnectallelementsbetweenthem. • Determines kind, type, brand and speed of C.P.U.

  5. MoBo • MoBos have different ports, for example the USB ports or the VGA port. • In groups you will be given a MoBo and you will need to name at least 5 ports. You need to know what are they used for. • 6 minutes: Failure to complete the task in time will end up in an extra homework 2.

  6. RAM • Random Access Memory. • Temporary things • Different from the Hard Disk Drive. • All programs you are running. • The more windows, programs and files you open the more RAM you need. • Used only by the computer, users can’t access them.

  7. “kinds” of Memory • How many kinds of MEMORY do computers have?

  8. RAM Specs • Can be upgraded. • Size • Megabytes (MB) • Gigabytes (GB) • One two or four modules depending on MoBo • Normally between 2 to 4 GB • They also have speed. • 400Mhz up to 1600 Mhz
