  2. CIO/IT Current status of CLCs. IT resource constraints. Plan for future CLCs (What is it?) Transformation path (How to get there)?

  3. It is a learning space equipped with computers for student learning and/or instructions. It is a comprehensive space with computers for students and/or instructors. It is a physical space (not a virtual space). What it is

  4. Types of Computer Learning Spaces Instructional Computer Learning Space Hybrid Computer Learning Space Casual Computer Learning Space

  5. Instructional Computer Learning Space • One or more instructional computers with presentation equipment (video projector, screen). • Many computers for students. • Heavy Instructional use (CS 207, UC 105) – scheduled for classes heavily

  6. Hybrid Computer Learning Space Zero or more instructional computers with presentation equipment (video projector, screen). Many computers for students. Medium instructional use (CS 212/CS213), scheduled for classes sometimes. Heavy use of software systems/tools by students for their homework and projects (CS212/CS213) physically and remotely. group/individual study area with student computers (CS212/CS213)

  7. Casual Computer Learning Space Non-instructional Use – group/individual study area with student computers Computers for general-purpose access.

  8. Computer Learning Space in peer institutions? (Learning space design, EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative http://www.educause.edu/content.asp?page_id=5521&bhcp=1 http://www.educause.edu/Chapter8.NavigatingTowardtheNext%2DGenerationComputerLab/11906 ) IT resource constraints with CLCs CLC computer utilization Technology change Issues

  9. Plan for Instructional Computer Learning Space Consolidation based on purpose and utilization The spaces with low utilization and cannot be justified from learning needs by the departments can be removed. Process (Upgrade) Cycle: 3 years Upgraded standard configuration: At least same as faculty desktop each year 3. Procedure IT/Dept. propose a plan and ITCC makes an initial recommendation on prioritization based on current status of computers, utilizations, and needs of departments, and IT makes a decision.

  11. Plan for Casual Computer Learning Space Consolidation based on purpose and utilization The spaces with low utilization and cannot be justified from learning needs can be removed. Process (Upgrade) Cycle: 3-4-5 years Types of upgrades: -- New PCs: Upgraded standard configuration: same as faculty desktop each year -- Relocated PCs: Reuse PCs from other two types of CLSs. 3. Procedure IT/Dept. propose a plan and ITCC makes an initial recommendation on prioritization based on current status of computers, utilizations, and needs of departments, and IT makes a final decision.
