Bear Island Timeline • Feb. 2007 NPS opened Cypress Camp, Hinson, and Plains trails • Dec. 2007 NPS temporarily closed portion of Cypress Camp Trail • Dec. 2007 Legal challenge to trail opening filed • May 2009 NPS submitted application to modify SFWMD permit to stabilize Bear Island trails • June 2009 Corps received application to modify 2004 Corps permit • Nov. 2010 SFWMD issued permit modification, extending permit expiration to Nov. 2015 • Mar. & June NPS met with Corps to discuss permit • 2011 modifications, including mitigation • June 2011 NPS submitted new mitigation proposal to Corps
