  1. Days I, 2 and 3Please get your Writer’s Notebook and a textbook. Turn to the Poetry Section in your Writer’s Notebook that you created earlier. Find a clean page and title it, “Sonnets and other love stuff.”  On this page, write a letter to a friend who is asking you for the perfect love song to impress his/her love interest. What is the song? Why is it so great? Which words are the most important images in the song?

  2. Conceits Definition: Exaggerated comparisons meant to emphasize the attractions of the beloved. Examples: • “..and Juliet is the sun. Arise Fair Sun and kill the moon…” • “The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars..” • “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…”

  3. Turn to page 254 in your textbook. You will be looking for at least one conceit in each of the following sonnets: • Sonnets 1 and 35- page 254 • Sonnet 75 – page 256 • Sonnet 31- page 258 • Sonnet 39- page 260 On a separate sheet of notebook paper, create this chart:

  4. Days 4,5 Assignment: With a group of no more than four, write a sonnet with the rhyme scheme of ababbcbccdcdee. Include at least four conceits.
