  2. The thing about coins of India is that from ancient to modern times, there are thousands of fascinating varieties to look for. That’s the reason why numismatists and collectors are always interested in Indian coins.

  3. Ancient coins in India can be classified based on the Majahanapadas. They reflect upon our rich traditions, art and culture. When it comes to ancient coins of South India, Pandyas, Chera, Sangam Cholas, Banwasis, Alupas and Pallavas are some of the dynasties who issued beautiful coins.

  4. Indian coins of medieval India can be classified based on the various dynasties and rulers who controlled different parts of the Indian subcontinent. Some of the most amazing medieval period coins of India were issued by the Mughals and Vijayanagra empire.

  5. Colonial issues are not just restricted to the British Empire in India. Even the Dutch, Portuguese and French colonies in India issued their own interesting coins. Separate coins were issued by the three presidencies set up by the East India Company namely Bengal, Bombay and Madras.

  6. Modern coins in India are also available in numerous varieties, right from the Anna series to the republic of India decimal coinage. Collectors also seek various commemorative issues of modern Indian coins that were struck to honour a particular personality or an event.
