  2. Project Goals Align high school course expectations with higher education placement expectations for first-year, non-remedial coursework in English and math to ensure seamless articulation and transfer. Align teacher preparation programs to match Ohio’s Common Core State Standards

  3. College and Career Readiness High school graduates have the necessary knowledge and skills to qualify for and succeed in: • Entry-level, credit bearing, college level courses • Postsecondary job training and/or education for a chosen career

  4. Students Ready for College and Careers exhibit: Source: Dr. David Conley

  5. ELA and Math • March 16 – Orientation in Columbus • Several lead teachers and college professors • May 23 - Gap analysis and root cause discussion at Malone • June 14-15 – Develop action plans • Begin discussion and form relationships • 21 math, 21 ELA HS teachers • 7 math, 9 ELA College professors

  6. ACT End of Course Exams • Purchased exams in math and ELA for three schools will track improvement over three years • All other schools had opportunity to give tests • Two schools chose not to participate • Several schools continuing to test • Professional development

  7. English Language Arts • Sept.-Oct. – HS teachers visit university classrooms and writing centers – subs paid • Nov.-Dec. – college professors visit HS classrooms • Fall – develop syllabi for seniors for second semester • expand next year • Nov. 12-14 – ACT end of course professional development – subs paid

  8. English Language Arts • Nov. 30 – subs paid • Share experiences • Develop grading norms for writing • Second semester – college professors and students visit classrooms to discuss college readiness • Pedagogy training – after school • Socratic seminar • Literature circles • Other • June 2013 – continue work - stipends

Math • Fall - Create 4th year math course • Sept.-Oct. - Create weekly review sheets • Nov. 29 – subs paid • Share experiences • Share 4th year math course • Plan curriculum alignment discussion • Feb. – curriculum alignment discussion • CDs, elementary, middle school, high school teachers, college professors • Subs paid

  10. Math • Second semester – college professors and students visit HS classrooms to discuss college readiness • Spring – follow up at schools with curriculum alignment discussion • June 2013 – continue work – stipends • Pedagogy training • Flipped learning • Other

  11. Teacher Preparation Programs • Fall – meeting with four universities • Provide resources • Webinars • Newsletters • ODE updates
