  1. Cathedral Primary School Summer 1 2013 Year 4 Science Habitats Children will be investigating which habitats certain animals live in and why. They will be identifying and classifying animals from a variety of habitats. Numeracy Children will continue to learn their times tables and apply this knowledge to word problems. They will solve division problems using their knowledge of times tables to help. We will further our knowledge of fractions by looking at equivalent and mixed fractions. PE Striking and Fielding/Swimming Children will be developing skills in batting and throwing balls accurately and using tactics in team games. Swimming lessons will begin on Wednesday 24th April, with our last session this half term on Wednesday 22nd May. Please continue to ensure children are at school for 8.25am on these days. RE Peace Children will share their experiences of peace. We will discuss how the Bible teaches Christians to be peaceful . Children will also work together to decide on non-violent ways to solve conflict. Literacy Persuasive Text Children will be looking advertisements and persuasive letters to identify the features of persuasive writing. They will apply this knowledge by making their own persuasive texts. PHSE Relationships Children will have opportunities to share and write stories about people or animals that are important to them. They will make a special package to remind them of that person, thinking carefully about their relationship with that person. Art/DT Paintings Children will spend time researching and analysing paintings from different periods of history. After discussing ideas, the children will experiment with new techniques. They will also develop their abilities in evaluating their own work and the work of others. History/Geography Inventions Children will use research skills to find out about important inventions in history. Through our partnership with the BFI, children will apply their knowledge of the invention of cinema to create short informative films. Other Subjects ICT – Through our partnership with the BFI, children will learn and apply new skills in recording and making films. Music – Children will be consolidating knowledge of pulse, rhythm and pitch. French – Children will be extending their vocabulary by learning how to talk about clothes in French.
