  2. Background • Marching Band • Efficiency and control of breath • Improve tone, stamina, dynamics, articulation, phrasing and ensemble feel • Five Stages: Stretches, Flow Studies, Therapies, Strength and Flexibility, and Breathing for the Brain

  3. Warning • If at any point you become light headed sit down and breath in through your nose and out through your mouth slowly and calmly. • Join in when you feel up to it.

  4. Pre-Breathing Gym • Mouth Shape • Inhale/ Exhale • Sitting position • Laying down position • TTPP

  5. Stretch • Truck Twist • Wrist Grab • Flop Over • Shoulder Roll • Neck Roll

  6. Flow Studies • Shorten Inhalation 4-4, 3-4, 2-4, 1-4 • Shorten Exhalation 4-4, 4-3, 4-2, 4-1 • Quick Breath Exercise • 1-2-3-4/1-2-3-4/1-2-3/ 1-2-3/ 1-2-3-4-5-6/ 1-2-3-4-5-6 • Bow and Arrow, Toss the Dart, Paper Airplane

  7. Therapies • Inhale Therapy • Exhale all air (sizzle) (10) • Put back of your hand to mouth and create suction (10) • Inhale in 1 beat • Hold 10 • Exhale in one big chunk (sizzle) • Mouth Shape On Rhythm

  8. Strength and Flexibility • In, Sip, Sip, Out, Push, Push • In- inhale max air, lift arms half way • Sip- fill up extra space, lift arms higher each time • Out- exhale completely in one beat, lower arms half way • Push- release any extra air, lower arms further

  9. Breathing for the Brain • Follow your breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. • In 6, hold 6, out 6 • In 4, hold 7, out 8

  10. Let’s Breath and Sing • In 4, out “eee” (piano dynamic) • Scale in a round
