  1. Sermon • The Attributes of God • The Incomprehensible God • Romans 11:33-36

  2. What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.

  3. There is comfort and stability that comes from knowing the nature and character of God.

  4. Rom 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34 For who has known the mind of the Lord, orwho becamehis counselor?

  5. 35 Or who has first given toHimthat itmight be paid back to him again? 36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

  6. Tozer • “What is God like?” …Yet at the outset I must acknowledge that it cannot be answered except to say that God is not like anything; that is, He is not exactly like anything or anybody.

  7. Question 7: What is God? WCFLC • Answer: God is a Spirit, in and of himself infinite in being, glory, blessedness, and perfection; all-sufficient, eternal, unchangeable, incomprehensible, everywhere present, almighty, knowing all things, most wise, most holy,

  8. most just, most merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.

  9. “Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

  10. That God can be known by the soul in tender personal experience while remaining infinitely aloof from the curious eyes of reason constitutes a paradox best described as Darkness to the intellect, but sunshine to the heart. …Frederick W. Faber

  11. Based on Romans 11:33ff here are four things we should keep in mind.. • -It is a deep thing to know God and we are incapable of it by ourselves. • -God is not indebted to anyone.

  12. -God does not need counsel from anyone. • -Because everything is from and through Him, He alone deserves all the glory forever.

  13. #1 -It is a deep thing to know God, and we are incapable of it by ourselves.

  14. ASEITY • The Self existence of God

  15. ”God has no origin,” said Novatian (200-258AD), and it is precisely this concept of no-origin which distinguishes That- which-is-God from whatever is not God.

  16. SPROUL – There must be something that has the power of being or else nothing would be, for nothing could be.

  17. #2 -God is not indebted to anyone. The Triune God stands apart from creation and is not indebted to anyone or anything.

  18. - THE SOLITARINESS OF God • A.W. Pink • There was nothing, no one, but God; and that, not for a day, a year, or an age, but “from everlasting.” During eternity past, God was alone: self-contained, self-sufficient, self-satisfied; in need of nothing.

  19. GOD ALONE IS PERFECTLY FREE AND AUTONOMOUS.

  20. #3-God does not need counsel from anyone.

  21. We abandon God at our peril, not His.

  22. #4 -Because everything is from and through Him, He alone deserves all the glory forever.

  23. "Worship is to feel in your heart and express in some appropriate manner a humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe and astonished wonder and overpowering love in the presence of that most ancient

  24. Mystery, that majesty which philosophers call the First Cause but which we call Our Father Which Art in Heaven.“ • A.W. Tozer

  25. If we want to intensify our enjoyment in life and our sense of fulfillment and significance, then the best way to do it is to hitch our hearts to the glory of God, not ourselves.
