  1. 36 Bird Drive Bridford Scotland EH41 5DN Dear Mummy and Daddy, Today the siren sounded at 2:30 am. Millie and I safely reached over to the table to get our gas masks on. As soon as we put them on, the house blew up. Luckily we were in our beds at the other side of the house. They destroyed every house in town. I get three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and tea. I feel a little bit sad. I miss you lots and lots. All I have got left is a pair of knickers, 3 vests, 2 pairs of socks and a teddy. Do not worry. I am fine. I muss you. Lots of Love from Shannon xxxx

  2. Turtle Dove House Ploverville Scotland EP4 91z Dear Mummy and Daddy, The train journey was seven hours long. There were woods most of the way. I fell asleep for most of it. We got off the train at Ploverville, in the middle of a wood. I felt scared because there were lots of children. I went to Turtle Dove House with a boy called Jack who is 9. They have a dog called Churchill. They are very nice. They have a big garden and a big vegetable patch. I have got a football but Jake is much better than me at it. We throw the ball for Churchill. We make dens in the wood and play tig and hide and seek in the garden. Hope to see you soon, Love you, from Niall xxxx

  3. Muir House New Winton Scotland EH41 4DN Dear mother and father, The train ride was great because the view was lovely but we didn’t know where we were going. The house is lovely too and Mr and Mrs Gomez are really nice and I’ve made a new friend called Ava and I have a horse called Winston. In the morning there was an air raid at 1 am, me and Rebecca ran up to our room and grabbed our suitcases. Luckily we hadn’t unpacked them as we would have lost everything. We ran downstairs and went into the village bomb shelter where I met Cora, Ava, Millie and Amy. The raid stopped at 2:30 am. The town was gutted. Lamposts were down and there was glass on the road. It was really scary and we were all crying. We can’t go back to our house but Mr and Mrs Gomez have a flat in Brockshire so we will stay there for the war. Hope you’re okay, Love from Lucy xx

  4. Averton Lane, Brookburn Nr Wales M32 Q43 21st February 1944 Dear Mother and Father, I do hope the bombing will stop so I can come back home to London. I didn’t like the train ride because it was loud, but it was worth the torture because Mrs Berry is very nice. There is one downside which is the outside lavatory. It’s quite uncomfortable, cold and damp. One day a bomb fell on one of our neighbour’s house and it was exhausting helping to put out the fire. The lady was left with only one picture of her husband. Love from Scott xxx

  5. Eglinton Park Ballater Scotland EH41 3LP Dear Mummy and Daddy, I got to Mrs Wilson’s house at 4:35 pm. The train ride was great but I felt sick as we were going through Perth. Mrs Wilson is a nice woman who lives in a big manor near Ballater. My first impression of her was that she was strict but I soon learned that she was not as strict as I first thought. There are two other evacuees in the house, the oldest is Raymond and he is 13 but we call him Ray for short. The other evacuee is called Zuri and she is 8 years old and so funny. We have fruit and veg growing in or garden and every day we have to water the plants. The first air raid we had was a few weeks ago. At 1:25 pm the siren went off and we all ran into the Anderson shelter. It was cold in there and the candles were low. We had to use the blankets to keep warm. I fell asleep and woke up the when the air raid had stopped. Our house was alright, no bombs had dropped on it. Later that day we went into the village. There was no damage. I hope you can meet Mrs Wilson one day. Love you, from Molly xxxx

  6. Mountain Dew House Loch Ness Scotland CAT1 111 Dear Mummy and Daddy, I had a great time on the train! It was fun, but when I got off I was scared. The house I’m staying in is really big. There are nice people there, Jimmy and Diana. They have a pet called Dew. I have a nice bed, it is really comfy. Two days ago a bomb landed on our house! I ran downstairs and hid under the table. We all ran out of the house and stood near the house sign. Dew jumped into my arms, then the roof of the house fell in. I only have 2 pairs of shorts, one jumper and 6 pairs of socks left, and luckily I still have my toy car. I’m okay now and hope that you are okay too. Lots of Love Sam xxxx
