  9. Some plants biosynthesize alkaloids to get rid of nitrogen, others have bitter, acrid, pungent taste or have unpleasant odor or have toxic property all that to protect themselves from animals Insect repellents: Gourdin, nicotine Insect attractants: V.O., nectar
