  1. Joseph MontemayorSpine chillers-Dr.Shiver’s Carnival Fred E. Katz Published In 1996 Horror/fiction

  2. Setting • The setting of this story mostly takes place in a mysterious and spooky carnival that has all sorts of scary contraptions in store for the kids. When the characters are not at the carnival, they’re at Kyle's uncle’s mansion where they can relax in the giant pool and enjoy life. I think this took place in the 90’s time period due to the lack of technology compared to what we have now.

  3. Characters • Kyle Conlon- tall ,nice ,courageous , and the smartest of the bunch and senses danger when the others can’t. • Uncle Rex-jolly ,happy ,rich ,creative , and a movie producer. • Sara-happy , positive, hardy, and the damsel in distress she is just as good at sensing danger as Kyle. • Sammy- clumsy , funny , weird , and a prankster Sammy always has to mess with Brent • Brent- mellow, calm , and fearful Brent is always having to deal with Sammy and his pranks and deal with his phobia of spiders

  4. PlotProblem and Conflict • A problem that occurs through out the story is Kyle and his three friends trying to tell themselves that all the creepy situations going on isn't real. This is an example of man vs. self. Aside from that the main conflict is the four kids trying to find their way back to Kyle's uncle’s house.

  5. PlotResolution • The kids stopped the conflict when they put all the clues together that they were receiving which spelled “its only a movie”. In the end uncle Rex was a movie producer who wanted to get footage for a scary movie he was making. Upon hearing this all the kids are relieved and happy to star in uncle Rex’s movie.

  6. My Opinion • I thought of the book as a frightening page turner that always left you wondering after every chapter. I was however disappointed in the lack of descriptive writing and grammar. I also thought the ending was a big shock and a smashing conclusion.

  7. 5 Interesting Facts About The author • 1.He writes Christian based scary books. • 2.He is a children's pastor for his church. • 3.He has written over fourteen books. • 4.He illustrates his books and writes them. • 5.He is a very private person who rarely gives information away about himself.

  8. 5 Questions • 1.In the end of the book what do the clues spell out? • 2.Who is the clowns true identity? • 3.What was the first attraction the kids rode? • 4.True or false uncle Rex’s pool is very small. • 5.What insect was found in Brent’s cotton candy? ???????????????????

  9. Summary • When Kyle and his 3 friends visit Kyle's uncle’s mansion they weren’t expecting a carnival to appear right next to the mansion. When they visit the carnival a creepy figure named Dr. Shivers gives them passes to the carnival. After they have ridden all the creepy rides they try, and figure out all the clues they have received which spell “its only a movie”, as if that wasn’t creepy enough they have somehow managed to get lost outside of the carnival. In the end they find there way back home and the uncle was a movie producer who was getting footage of the kids for a scary movie.
