  17. Preparedness for launching Kharif CampaignKrushi Mahotsav–2007 Krushi Mahotsav, as an intensive convergence and mass contact strategy, was successfully tried in 2005 & 2006. We continue the same programme this year from 20-4-2007 to 19-5-2007. • This is a uniquely intensive month-long programme of mass contact with farmers. • Contact through a mobile exhibition van called “Krushi Rath” that visit every village. Experts accompanying with “Krushi Rath” to offer advise to the farmers • Focus on visiting each village , advising and assisting an individual farmer, free input kits to 15 poor farmers in each village and additional 15 kits per village in tribal area • Take up community base scheme like, water conservation through public participation.

Krushi Mahotsav 2007 ………Strategies Advice to farmers on …. • Crop planning, Multiple cropping and inter cropping, • To bring more area under micro irrigation through Gujarat Green Revolution company, • Promote IPM, INM, biotechnology, organic farming , on farm value addition • High tech agriculture - greenhouse, tissue culture, • Diversification towards high value, more remunerative, competitive, demand driven, sustainable crops. • Making administrative arrangement for easy availability of quality inputs. • Synchronizing Special Focused Programs for BPL/ small and marginal farmers with Krushi Mahotsav. • Involving of 18 Departments , NGOs and private partnership in extension and rural related services. • Publishing progressive farmers’ innovative practices.

Waste Land Development • State has planned to bring 19.84 lakh hact cultivable waste land • under cultivation by developing it. • The land is given on lease to Corporate / Industrial sector , capable farmers, • for development. • Emphasis on cultivation of horticultural crops & bio fuel crops • Emphasis on Micro Irrigation on that land • Gujarat State Land Development Corporation working for reclamation • of saline and alkaline soil . (9024 ha covered up to February ’07 in 2006-07) • GSLDC has reclaimed 15500 ha land Under costal salinity (State Plan) • Planning 2007-08 : • 15580 ha area will be reclaimed , Outlay of Rs. 3136.00 lakh (State Plan) • Soil Health Card : 15.33 lakh SHC provided to farmers , • Emphasis on balanced use of fertilizer , organic farming Gujarat Agriculture

National Horticulture Mission • Gujarat State Horticulture Mission (GSHM) a registered society has been set up for implementation of NHM in the state. • Action plan of Rs 87.96 crore for the year 2006-07. • Mission is being implemented in 12 potential districts and covers 12 important crops of the state viz, Mango, Chiku, Aonla, Guava, Dates, Banana, Papaya, Lime, Cumin, Fennel, and Flowers, Medicinal & Aromatic crops. • Expenditure Incurred by February ’07 is Rs. 18.79 crore • Action plan of Rs 75.00 crore for the year 2007-08. • Additional 5 Districts have been proposed under mission. • Main thrust is given on Post Harvest , Infrastructure and Marketing aspect . Strategy to Strengthen Extension Network through ATMA • Since, the GoI has projected to extend the ATMA project in all the districts, the extended coverage will help plan for a similar strategy for extension activities to be taken up in the state of Gujarat. • The ATMA project will help using modest resources from such projects and will also help in filling up gapes whenever possible. • Under SAMETI, it is planned to organize training courses for the Agricultural Input Dealers of the state. • Such trained dealers will be engaged in the act of transfer of technology through ATMA. • It is planned to establish Farm Information & Advisory Centers at block and below level • Under ATMA project, more than 40 technology packages in electronic form has been prepared. In the current FY, almost 100 such packages will be prepared. • These packages will be available to the farmers on www or through TV. Such packages will be given to all the villages that are given facilities of computers. The farmer will not require to wait for the extension functionary for advise. Gujarat Agriculture

Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Kisan Credit Card, Self Help Group • Attract women & youth farmers in scientific agriculture. • Ultimately increased the area , production & productivity in last two years. Impact on Productivity as a result of Major Initiatives • GM crops – cotton • Productivity increased from 191 kg/ha (2002-03) to 625 kg / ha (2006-07) , Increase area 16.75 lakh ha (2002-03) to 23.90 lakh ha (2006-07). • Water Harvesting • Increased ground water level up to 6 meter in 2006-07, • Create extra potential about 4.00 lakh ha. • Increase crop grown area ( Rabi : Normal 18 lakh ha to 32 lakh ha (2006-07) , Summer : Normal 2.10 lakh ha to 4.00 lakh ha (2006-07), • Ultimately productivity increased. • Public Private Partnership developed • Horticulture Mission • Insisting using tissue cultured banana plants, have significantly increased productivity of banana ( from 51 to 52 ton/Ha) • In spices crops, assistance is being given to farmers ,using only truthful seeds. So, productivity will increase due to use of quality seeds.(Cumin-550 to 575 Kg/Ha, Fennel-1580 to 1600 Kg/ Ha) Gujarat Agriculture

IMPACT OF NWDPRA High lights of Mid-Term Evaluation Report (Period : 2002-03 TO 2004-05) Watershed : 5H1A8c1b Village : Rajasthali, Taluka : Kalawad, Dist : Jamnagar • Increase 30 to 40 % in crop yield. • Agriculture Production could be increased by about 30 to 40 % under the crops, Bajari, Cotton, Groundnut etc. • Increase cotton production 3600 kgs per ha, comparing with past which was an average 2400 kg. ha. • The economical benefits were 30 to 40 % more as compared to past. Watershed : 5F2C3b1a Village : Patadia, Taluka : Khedbrahma , Dist : Sabarkantha • 20 percent of rise in agriculture production, • More return in the last two years also. Contribution of Animal Husbandry to growth in Agriculture • Major share of motive power of agriculture comes from livestock • Livestock keeping- an integral part of farming system as land, labors and water can be efficiently utilized. • Remarkable contribution of livestock products towards the state income • Value of livestock products and by products constantly increasing over the years. • In 1995-96 AH sector has generated Rs 4597 crore of income which has reached to Rs 9477 crore by 2004-05. -There is increase of 106.16 percent, -Average increase of 29.40 percent per year since last 10 years.   43. NEW INITIATIVES -1 . AGRICULTURAL MARKETING ORGANISATIONS APMC ; MODEL ACT passed in assembly as on 29-3-2007 61 MOUs signed during Vibrant Summit 2007 (13 & 14th January , 2007 ) for Agro & Food Processing amounting Rs 10375 Crore which will generate Employment for 73401 persons.

  44. NEW INITIATIVES – 2 . Tribal Area Development Programme • Strategic reforms : State Govt. had committed an amount of Rs. 15000.00 crore in 11th five year for providing high level of social & Infrastructure inputs for speedy development of Tribal Areas. • The Major Agricultural Goals • Create employment opportunity in agriculture sector • Encourage Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Agro based activities. • Provide high quality skill training to Tribal Youths • Accord priority to women headed household • Emphasis on Public Participatory Irrigation Management System • Focused on water harvesting • Assistance for creation of irrigation facilities & micro irrigation

  45. AGRISNET NEW INITIATIVES – 3 . • In Gujarat , Taluka level connectivity is already exist. • Under E-gram project , computers are provided to each village. • So it will be required to extend the connectivity up to village level to provide benefit of IT to the farmers. • There is no connectivity from Taluka to village. • It will be possible by WiFi system. • Therefore, we require FUND for village level connectivity. • Estimated cost per village is Rs. 20000/- • In Gujarat there are 18600 villages. • So , to cover 18600 villages, total fund required for this connectivity will be Rs. 37.20 crore under AGRISNET programme.

  46. Soil Health Card NEW INITIATIVES – 4 . • In Gujarat , total operational land holder is 37.80 lakh • Total 15.33 lakh Soil Health Card had been provided to farmers • 22.48 lakh farmers are wait for Soil Health Card till today. • So, It is necessary to pick up this programme with contribution of unemployed Agricultural Graduate. • Mobile Soil Testing Kit with cost of Rs. 12000/- is available in open market. • Per taluka 3 Kits are required. • Total 225 talukas in the State. • So, an amount of Rs. 81.00 lakh required under Macro Management of Agriculture Scheme. • It will generate employment & outsourcing.
