  2. Agenda Books • Each child receives one in the beginning of the year • Ample time to record assignments • Parents signature required • Tool of communication between home and school

  3. Time Management • Long term assignments • Short term assignments • Planning assignments based on personal schedules • Using agenda as a tool for managing time • Use of “kitchen timer” • Follow district guidelines for suggested homework times

  4. Routines • Having appropriate supplies on hand • Having a designated “homework place” • Knowing your child’s needs and when works best to complete assignments • Parent help vs. Independent work

  5. Making Your Child More Independent • Encourage your child to have a plan to bring all necessary materials home or to the work place (ruler, colored pencils, etc.) • Encourage your child to begin assignments independently • Call a homework buddy for clarification of assignment

  6. Making Your Child More Independent Cont. • Encourage your child to share completed homework and give you the agenda book to sign • Encourage your child to adhere to dead lines • Encourage your child to repack book bag with all homework assignments

  9. Strategies for Organization • Color coding subjects • Put materials in proper place (homework assignments, supplies, etc.) • Sort through take home folder • Distinguish between what stays at home and what is to be returned
