  1. Eight Solutions Lab Analysis of Unknown

  2. Unknown #423 test 1:I am going to test first with lead (II) nitrate because it provides a variety of different reactions

  3. Observation:There was no reaction

  4. Conclusion:The unknown is not: sodium iodide, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide.Additionally, it is not copper (II) nitrate or iron (III) nitrate because the unknown is colorless. It could be nitric acid, silver nitrate, or lead (II) nitrate

  5. Hypothesis: (Just pick one of the possibilities)The unknown is silver nitrate Test:Add sodium hydroxide. If the unknown is silver nitrate, the solution will turn cloudy brown.

  6. Observation:White solid formed when sodium hydroxide was added

  7. Conclusion:The unknown is lead (II) nitrate

  8. Additional test confirming the hypothesis that the unknown is lead (II) nitrate:Add sodium iodide. If the unknown is lead (II) nitrate, the solution will turn bright yellow

  9. Observation:When sodium iodide was added a bright yellow solution formed. Conclusion:the unknown #423 is definitely lead (II) nitrate.

  10. Your write up should look like this:
