What kinds of things will we be looking at


1910 to 1920


Facts about the decade:

  • The model T introduced in 1908

    By 1916, as the price dropped to $360 for the basic touring car,

  • the RMS Titanic sank in 1912

  • the start of WWI 1914


Died 1901

1901 to 1910

A change in the throne


  • The beginning of the period


Corsets created an hourglass shape for women


The end of the period


Egyptian influences became popular with the discovery of King Tut’s tomb.


Asian styles & accessories were also important well in to the 1920’s.


Fabrics, & other

accessories were also

exotic


Garments were delicate and highly decorated


From start to finish:


One of the first Fashion Designers:

  • PAUL POIRET

  • Poiret established his own house in 1903,

  • Known because he marketed and branded his design house “kimono coat”

  • Best known for freeing women of corsets

  • Developed the first designer purfume


He was really the dude that eliminated corsets.


The fictional illustrations of Charles Dana Gibson defined feminine beauty.

Style Icon: the Gibson Girl


She was tall, strong, spirited and feminine.

She wore elegant decorated shirwaists(blouses) and full skirts.

She was even featured on an American stamp (1998)!
