Create Partnerships • Creating Partnerships • Northview Middle School • Faculty to Faculty Collaboration • Indianapolis Urban League’s Career Track Program • Career Conversations & Campus visits • Indiana Black Expo • Participation in Summer Celebration, Kid’s World, Children’s Day, MLK Essay Contest, and Saving Our Youth Celebrity Basketball Game • Project Stepping Stone • Collaboration with the National Society of Hispanic MBA’s, IU Kelley School of Business-Indianapolis, and Campus & Community Life • Program to provide Latino high school juniors and seniors with information on careers in business and the college enrollment process

Create Action • Online Resources • College Search Guide – online notebook that provides prospective students with general information on the college enrollment process • College Online Notebook- online notebook that provides newly admitted students with information regarding next enrollment steps and IUPUI programs/ services • Multicultural Phone-A-Thons • Fall Semester • Invite prospective students to attend Shades of Brilliance & answer any questions • Spring Semester • Contact newly admitted students to promote IUPUI’s diversity related scholarships, the Summer Bridge Program, College Goal Sunday, and Campus Day • Summer Calls • Answer any questions the students and/or the parent might have and encourage students to sign up for orientation

Future Initiatives • Expanding current partnerships and creating new partnerships with internal and external entities • Recent program summary compiled by Student Life & Diversity www.diversity.iupui.edu • Invite more organizations to have functions on our campus • Include current students, faculty, staff, and alumni in multicultural outreach efforts • MOVE- Multicultural Outreach Volunteer Educators • Multicultural Outreach Ambassador Scholars • Provide more resources to organizations encouraging minority and low-income youth to pursue post secondary education • PDF versions of planning tools & exercises • Multicultural outreach – college planning toolkit • Create promotional materials that highlight diversity at IUPUI • First-Generation Information Card • Diversity Information Card • Improve contact management for multicultural outreach purposes

Challenges • Limited Financial Resources • Students have high need and limited financial literacy • Poor Graduation Rates • Graduation rates in areas with large minority populations • IUPUI’s graduation rates • Explaining Delayed Gratification • Why invest time now • Combating Stereotypes • Helping students to see themselves as “college material” • Increased Competition For Best& Brightest • Everyone wants the best and brightest minority students
